Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper star in movie, The Place Beyond the Pines, directed by Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine). With these leading men, one might expect the ultimate rom-com, but this flick is far from an uplifting date movie. The film follows the consequences of Luke’s (played by Gosling) decision to commit crimes to support his child and policeman Avery’s (played by Cooper) resilience to uphold justice and stop Luke. Their lives become intertwined following their first encounter, till death. This mind-bending movie is dark and depressing, but it will keep you at the edge of your seat wanting more.
