Mac Pro

It looks like a trash bin, but what you see here is actually the next-generation Mac Pro, Apple’s professional desktop computer. Gone is the aluminum tower, and in its place is an all-black cylindrical design. At 9.9-inches tall and 6.6-inches wide, the new Mac Pro takes up only eighth the size of old Mac Pro. But don’t let its diminutive size fool you. Apple designed this guy, like the G4 Cube from yesteryear to pack plenty of power.

Removing the Mac Pro’s body from above reveals a tightly-packed engineering feat that’s set to redefine what a desktop should look like. The new Mac Pro is twice as fast as the old Mac Pro thanks to new Intel Xeon E5 processors with 12 cores of processing power, two AMD FirePro workstation-class GPUs with 6GB of VRAM, ultra-fast PCI Express-based flash storage instead of SATA-based hard drives and lighting fast 1866MHz DDR3 RAM.

On the port side, the new Mac Pro has six Thunderbolt 2 ports powerful enough to drive three 4K resolution displays, four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. The Mac Pro also has the latest in wireless tech: 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. How Apple squeezed so much tech prowess into such a compact chassis is beyond us.

Pricing and exact release haven’t been announced yet, but at least we know the new Mac Pro will be made in the good ol’ U.S.A.
