Affordable Ultra HD TVs (aka 4K TVs) are starting to flood the market this year. Following Sony’s lead earlier this year, LG announced two new 4K resolution TVs in 55-inch and 65-inch models. Aside from its 3840 x 2160 resolution and slim bezel, the LA9700 Ultra HD LED TV boasts a 4.1 channel, 50-watt sound system sound bar that slides downwards from behind the panel, and a voice-controllableMagic Remote. LG’s new flat screens will also be one of the first TVs with H.265 compatibility, which should make next-gen streaming content all the more future-proof.
Just to save you a little homework, LG’s LA9700 costs $1,000 more than Sony’s 55-inch XBR-55X900A ($4,999) and 65-inch XBR-65X900A ($6,999) 4K resolution TVs. The only real difference is LG’s design chops on the LA9700 are sleeker; Sony’s 4K TVs have the speakers affixed on the sides in an exposed way.
So, where can you buy one? For now, LG’s selling them exclusively in Santa Monica, CA’s Video & Audio Center. Hopefully, LG will get them into other stores soon.
Price: $5,999.99 (55-inch), $7,999.99 (65-inch)
