Bean Boots by L.L.Bean®

Leon Leonwood Bean otherwise known as “L.L. Bean” is the creator of the Bean Boot and founder of the L.L.Bean® retail store. Bean was an avid hunter and fisherman that would constantly come home with soaked boots. Up to the 1900s men’s boots were largely made with leather soles. Bean took a pair of rubber soled shoes to his local cobbler and had them fitted with leather uppers and by 1912 his Maine Hunting Shoe was born. His shoe could withstand severe wet weather and it was comfortable. The Maine Hunting Shoe soon became the Bean Boot and within the past 100 years the design has hardly changed.

The Bean Boot is an essential item in every man’s wardrobe. There are many other boots in similar styles by Schnee’s, Ecco and Hoffman, however the history and quality behind the Bean boot is a deciding factor. The stichers making the boots have 20+ years of experience and largely come from generations of craftsmen. These boots come in a variety of colors and upper sizes (6-8 inches). The one drawback with the Bean boot is that it comes in whole sizes only. At $99 these boots are inexpensive in an all-weather boot market that starts at $200.
