Canon EOS Rebel T5

DSLRs are slowly going the way of the dodo. For most people, compact interchangeable lens cameras are good enough replacements for DSLRs. Like Nikon, Canon refuses to let go of the consumer DSLR. The company’s latest EOS Rebel T5 isn’t much of an update, so much as it is an inexpensive choice for novices.

The T5 has an 18-megapixel CMOS APS-C image sensor, the DIGIC 4 image processor, ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12800), nine-point AF, three frames per second continuous shooting and 1080p HD video recording. Compared to small cameras with big same size image sensors such as the Sony A6000, the T5 is kind of embarrassing.

Still, if a durable DSLR on the cheap is what you’re after, then the T5 isn’t a bad option. (Remember, Canon’s DSLRs have a big selection of compatible lenses.) The T5 will be available in March for $549.99, which includes an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens.
