You don’t need cable to enjoy great television shows. A simple HD antenna tuner will get you plenty of free broadcast channels. TiVo is embracing the cord-cutting generation with the Roamio OTA DVR, a digital video recorder and media streaming box.
If you’re thinking thinking the Roamia OTA (over the air) DVR is a VCR recorder for the 21st century, you’re absolutely right. TiVo says the Roamio OTA DVR can record four shows at the same time (never miss a show again) and store 75 hours of HD programming on its 500GB storage.
With the Roamio OTA DVR, you get national channels like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS and Internet-streamed video content from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, Pandora, Spotify and others.
And you get the same user interface, universal search and recommendations dashboard, and smartphone/tablet app remote integration as you’d get from TiVo’s premium Roamio DVRs that do require cable/satellite subscriptions.
$49.99 gets you in the door, but you’ll need to pay a $14.99 monthly service fee with a 1-year contract. One more thing: the Roamio OTA DVR will only be available exclusively at Best Buy starting September 14.
