Motorola isn’t the only one with a round-faced smartwatch coming out. Ahead of IFA, LG has revealed its G Watch R, a wearable that puts fashion first. The G Watch R resembles something you’d find from Seiko or Tag, only not as sophisticated, and heavier on the tech integration.
It has a 1.3-inch OLED display with a 320 x 320 resolution (not in a square array, of course), 1.2GHz Qualcomm 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 410mAh battery. It will run Google’s Android Wear software.
The G Watch R also comes with a built-in heart rate monitor, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0.
As far as durability goes, the LG G Watch R may not be that tough. Although its frame is made from stainless steel, its display is plastic, and not the sapphire glass that premium watches are made from. But we will give LG props for using 22mm calf skin for the leather strap; it’s interchangeable which is nice, too.
What it lacks in strength, the LG G Watch R does kind of make up with IP67 dust and water resistance when submerged underwater for a meter up to 30 minute. From what we can tell, the G Watch R is a whole lot more interesting than the dull-looking G Watch that was released recently.
Available on October 14.
