The next-generation iPhone is here and it’s everything we were expecting. The iPhone 6 has a brand new aluminum body that’s only 6.9mm thick, 4.7-inch Retina HD display (1334 x 750 resolution), A8 processor that’s 25% faster than the 5s’s A7 processor, and M8 motion co-processor.
The back has an all-new 8-megapixel rear camera with a hybrid phase detection system called “Focus Pixels”, 1.5-micro pixels, and f/2.2 aperture. Apple’s also increased the video recording performance from 1080p at 30 fps to 60 fps. Slo-motion video recording also increases from 120 fps to 240 fps for even slower playback. Cinema stabilization with continuous autofocus helps make recorded videos even smoother.
The front FaceTime HD is still a 1.2-megapixel camera that shoots 720p HD video, but its lens is now a f/2.2 (previous was f/2.4) and a new burst mode for those crazy selfies is available.
New is NFC for use with ApplePay, the company’s new digital wallet that aims to replace your credit cards, the addition of 150Mbps LTE with 20 LTE bands and a built-in barometer for tracking altitude data. VoLTE aka Voice Over LTE will mean clearer calls and Wi-Fi calling means you can relay calls in bad signal areas to more reliable Wi-Fi networks and seamlessly transition back and forth.
The iPhone 6 has improved battery life: 50 hours of audio playback, 11 hours of video playback, up to 10 hours of Internet use on LTE/11 hours on Wi-Fi and up to 10 days of standby time.
The iPhone 6 will come in three colors: gold, silver, and space gray. Pricing starts at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 64GB and $399 for $128GB. The iPhone 6 will be available on September 19. Pre-orders start on September 12.
