Third time’s the charm is probably what Microsoft is thinking. The new Surface Pro 3 is all about killing the laptop (specifically, the near-perfect MacBook Air). It has a larger 12-inch 3:2 aspect ratio display with whopping 2160 x 1440 resolution. The better to multitask with, of course. The Surface Pro 3 is also thinner (9.1mm), lighter (1.7 pounds), faster and lasts 10 percent longer (9 hours) than the previous Surface Pro 2.
The built-in kickstand now goes from 22-degrees all the way down to 150-degrees (for better “lapability”). The speakers are 40 percent more powerful. And the Touch Cover Keyboard ($130, sold separately) also boasts a better trackpad with 68 percent more touchable area.
This being a full Windows 8.1 experience, the Surface Pro 3 comes in a number of roaring configs:
$799: Intel Core i3 processor, 64GB SSD, 4GB of RAM
$999: Intel Core i5, 128GB SSD, 4GB of RAM
$1,299: Intel Core i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM
$1,549: Intel Core i7, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM
