Motorola’s Moto X was one of the best Android smartphones of last year and this year the company’s coming guns-a-blazin to ensure its new second-generation Moto X is hit.
New on the second-gen Moto X is an aluminum frame that doubles as an antenna booster, a larger 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display, faster 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash that can record 4K video, and a slightly larger 2300 mAh battery.
The Android 4.4.4-powered device is as close to “pure” Android as possible, but comes with a few of Motorola’s signature enhancements including Moto Voice, Moto Display, Moto Actions and Moto Assist. Moto Actions is a nifty new feature that lets you wave your hand over the display to silence incoming calls and snooze alarms.
The new Moto X comes in 16GB and 32GB models. Verizon and AT&T will also have an updated Moto Maker website which will let you customize the colors and accents on the smartphone. In total, there will be 17 soft-polycarbonate backs, 10 accent colors, 4 wood finishes and 4 leather options (yes, cow hide — sourced from Horween).
With a two-year contract the new16GB Moto X starts at $99, but will also be sold for $499.99 unlocked.
Pre-orders start on September 16.
